Overview
The Internet Dangers & Awareness presentations prepares teachers, parents and students to effectively address practical classroom, school and home computer and technology issues. Regardless of computer experience, participants will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of potential dangers in the school, the classroom and at home. Participants will also be better prepared to communicate safe practices to concerned parents and/or colleagues.

Issues
Internet predators, chat rooms, msn messenger & profiles, online bullying, monitoring Internet activity, safe searching on the net, blogging, free software, phishing and passwords, etc. This informative and practical workshop has been well received by teachers, administrators, graduate students and the general public alike.

What participants leave with
A deep understanding of the potential dangers of the Internet and how to safeguard against unwanted intrusions and practices. Participants will also be provided with reference material that covers basic Internet Safety guides lines, how to deal with cyberbullying, Internet terminolgoy, and instructions for setting browser filtering and enabling privacy settings on popular social networking sites.

  • Internet Awareness & Safety Presentation (Parents & Educators)
  • An introduction to Internet awareness, the Dark side of the Internet, Tips & Tools for parents to monitor their children's online use, setting basic ground rules, and how to deal with cyberbullying, predators, ID theft and much more. (90 minutes)

  • Cyberbullying Presentation (Students)
  • Be Cyber Safe offers an interactive presentation that will provide students with tools to prevent, stop and report cyberbullying. The students work with the speaker to suggest ways that they can use technology in a positive way to eliminate this growing trend. The preferred audience is students in grades 7 and 8. (45 minutes)
